KOTA MARUDU: Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri
Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili yesterday launched the new RM100 million
1Avenue premier mixed development centre which will help transform Kota
Marudu into the economic hub of northern Sabah.
Dr Ongkili, who is
also Kota Marudu member of parliament, said the new commercial and
residential project would be a major boost to on-going efforts to
develop the district, in line with his election manifesto of
“Transformation for a Developed and Competitive Kota Marudu”.
1Avenue
will not only cater to the growing needs for commercial and business
facilities in the district but also provide residences, hotel lodging
and a cineplex for the entertainment needs of the people.
1Avenue
consists of two phases with 296 shoplots and offices at the 1Avenue
Commercial Centre, the first 3-star hotel in the district with 160
rooms, as well as the first Cineplex in the northern region of Sabah.
The 1Avenue Residence will introduce modern living to Kota Marudu with a
swimming pool, multi-purpose hall, gymnasium, badminton and sepak
takraw courts, dance studio and children play area.
“The project
undertaken by WK Majujaya Sdn Bhd is part of our efforts to upgrade the
living standard in Kota Marudu with modern facilities, restaurants and
retail services.
“It is part of our efforts to transform Kota
Marudu, which has an existing 384 shoplots and an additional 165 being
constructed with a further 701 approved for development.
“For
residences, there are 536 residential homes in the town area, 1,697
homes being built (including the 1Avenue project) and an additional 616
approved for development for the coming few years,” Dr Ongkili said.
Hence,
he said the rakyat and the business people were enjoying the benefits
of development of commercial centres, residences, agriculture and other
forms of land development.
“Property prices in Kota Marudu have increased by 300% in the last five years, benefitting many land owners,” he said.
Dr
Ongkili however said other infrastructure must be put in place to
support these developments, including a dual carriageway which was being
planned for the township, besides the need for uninterrupted
electricity supply, sufficient quality water supply and mitigation
efforts to resolve the flood problem in Kota Marudu.
“Overall, the
income of Kota Marudu people in the commercial, business and
agriculture sector has improved drastically, consistent with our
transformation policy and goal of improving the livelihood of the
people.
“Partnerships with the private sector and investors such
as WK Majujaya are crucial in ensuring we reach our goal of making Kota
Marudu the economic hub of northern Sabah.
“This is in keeping to
the Barisan Nasional’s goal to bring transformation and improve the
livelihood of the people towards achieving our nation’s Vision 2020. BN
Boleh!” he told the people at the launch
