KOTA KINABALU: Upko Kota Marudu is still suspended pending the party central leadership’s investigation into alleged irregularities in the division.

According to Upko secretary general Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau, the party’s supreme council has yet to receive an appeal letter from the division with regard to its status.

“The supreme council has decided to suspend the division and until the council decides otherwise, the suspension will stand. We have yet to receive the letter of appeal from them,” he said when asked for an update on the matter at the Upko Penampang divisional meeting here yesterday.

Tangau was responding to the issue surrounding Upko Kota Marudu as several of its members had asked the party’s central leadership to lift the suspension so they could hold the division’s triennial general meeting (TGM) before the party’s congress in October.

“The divisional TGM was supposed to be held on September 15 but due to a complaint from an Upko Kota Marudu member about our membership, the Upko central leadership has decided to temporarily suspend the division.

“We are very disappointed with the central leadership’s decision, so we are appealing to be allowed to hold the meeting as scheduled on September 15 or any time before the main congress next month,” he said, adding that the division leaders will be submitting an appeal letter to party president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok.
