Sabah's Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri
Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili recently launched the new RM100 million
1Avenue premier mixed development centre which will help transform Kota
Marudu into the economic hub of northern Sabah.
He said the new commercial and residential project would be a major
boost to ongoing efforts to develop the district, in line with his
election manifesto of "Transformation for a Developed and Competitive
Kota Marudu."
1Avenue consist of two phases with 296 shoplots and offices, a
three-star hotel with 160 rooms, and a cineplex for the entertainment
needs of the local people. The 1Avenue Residence will include a swimming
pool, multi-purpose hall, gymnasium, badminton and sepak takraw court,
dance studio and a playground.
Although property prices in Kota Marudu has increase by 300% in the last
five years, other infrastructures such as a dual carriageway must be
constructed. The town also requires uninterrupted electricity supply,
sufficient quality water supply and mitigation efforts to resolve
flooding problems in Kota Marudu.
Ongkili said, "Overall, the income of the local community who are in the
commercial, business and agriculture sector has improved drastically.
This is consistent with our transformation policy and goal of improving
the livelihood of the people."
He added: "Government partnerships with the private sector and investors
such as WK Majujaya are crucial in ensuring we reach our goal of making
Kota Marudu the economic hub of northern Sabah."
