KOTA MARUDU: The police arrested a vegetable vendor for selling illegal four digit numbers to members of the public.
District police chief DSP Mohd Isa Yusof said the 33-year-old suspect was arrested after the police received a tip-off at the district market on Wednesday around 3.50pm.
Mohd Isa said initial police investigation believed the suspect received bookings for illegal numbers from clients through SMSes.
He said during the arrest, the police also confiscated a handphone, a prepaid phone card and cash amounting to RM67from the suspect.
The case would be investigated under Section 9 (1) of the Common Gaming House 1953, which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or six months’ jail or both on conviction.
Mohd Isa thanked the public for the information and looked forward to similar cooperation with the police in the future.
